Silverpoint drawing by Lori VanKirk Schue
This workshop is also available on:
Silverpoint is a traditional drawing technique that was used by such artists as Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer and Rembrandt. An ancient art form that is experiencing a revival, silverpoint is accomplished by using a silver stylus on prepared paper to produce a fine delicate drawing. The silver-gray drawing tarnishes when exposed to air, resulting in a pleasing, golden brown tone.
Lori VanKirk Schue discusses silverpoint’s history, evolution, materials, and process as you create your own masterpiece. Students should bring a reference image or select from images provided in class. The best reference images are ones that clearly show the subject and texture, such as an animal, portrait or still life. Confident drawing skills are recommended.
All supplies are provided including a sterling silver stylus with holder and several sheets of prepared paper.
A supply fee of $45 payable to the instructor covers all materials.
