With glass of wine in hand, enjoy an entertaining and informative evening with an orchid expert learning about summer orchid care and, in a hands-on activity, how to properly repot an orchid that is yours to take home. The session begins with a presentation on orchid history, lore, and basic care. Next, learn strategies to meet the unique challenges presented when an orchid is moved outside for the summer: the pros and cons of the move, the extra care steps needed, and knowing when it should be returned indoors.

Phalaenopsis orchids, potting material, and pots are distributed, and participants are guided step-by-step through repotting their orchid. They may also bring in orchids from their own collections for the question-and-answer session with the instructor that ends the evening.

Instructor Barbara Schmidt is a member of the Orchid Society; Longwood Gardens; and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, where she teaches orchid classes. Her orchids have won a variety of awards, including first-place ribbons at the Philadelphia International Flower Show. She is the author of the 2016 book Orchid Care: For the Beginner.
